The Renewable Energy Association (REA) is requesting input from industry, academia and NGOs on a review into the future of bioenergy in the UK. Announced on Monday 21 January, the REA’s call for evidence follows an estimate from the Committee on Climate Change stating that bioenergy could provide up to 15% of UK energy generation by 2050. The review aims to inform policy and will include an assessment of the current role of bioenergy and its potential to help the UK meet its decarbonisation targets. Author of the call for evidence Adam Brown said: “Many of the policies which have helped spur the growth of bioenergy are now coming to an end and the energy markets and technologies have advanced significantly. So it’s time for an update of the UK’s strategy.”
