Consultancy

Since its creation in 2016, Pixie Energy’s team has provided pre-eminent strategic energy research and consultancy services, focussing on wide-ranging impacts of disruption on energy regulation, policy and markets. It is working to develop and implement local energy market ideas and deliver learning by doing projects to implement commercial and technical innovation.

Our team are:

  • Trusted – we are the commercial advisors to a number of companies across the industry.

  • Independent – we are objective and adopt an analytically-driven approach.

  • Flexible – we are agile and capable of delivering insight through multiple mediums, and can work collaboratively with other project advisors.

  • Practised – our team has extensive experience in trading, retailing, energy procurement, renewables, flexible and thermal capacity, and policy and regulatory design.

  • Far-sighted – we have a unique perspective in the market by working across retail, networks and generation, which enables us to provide in-depth insights across the whole energy chain.

At Pixie Energy our insight stems from a deep understanding of the GB energy and water markets. We use knowledge to identify, analyse and evaluate the next innovations, test commercial models in light of these, and work to implement industry change to support these.

We provide a range of energy research and consultancy services to support organisations through their business and financial planning, strategy development, due diligence, policy design, risk management and regulatory assessments.

Examples

  • The Ipswich Flexibility Study, funded by BEIS and operated in partnership with Suffolk County Council and Ipswich Borough Council, explored mechanisms to create value from changes in customer behaviour.
  • Supporting Powervault in a successful BEIS-funded Innovative Demand-Side Response Competition bid, providing an quantitative assessment of the benefit to domestic customers of dynamic tariffs with smart batteries and heating control
  • A market scoping and understanding report for local power producers and landowners in the rural economy, helping understand the value available from decentralised energy schemes in the rural environment
  • A guide to local energy, produced on behalf of a local body for the benefit of community energy groups, which will be published in FY2021
