Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform Rosie Cunningham has updated the Scottish Parliament on the progress made on greenhouse gas reduction up to 2016. The Scottish Greenhouse Gas Emissions Annual Target Report for 2016 was published on Wednesday 31 October and confirmed that Scotland’s 2016 emissions targets were met, with a 10.3% reduction in net emissions since 2015. In the session on Thursday 1 November, Cunningham said that Scotland’s second climate change adaption programme will be published in 2019. Scottish Conservative MSP Maurice Golden welcomed the progress made but said that the government should focus on improving emissions in the transport sector. Scottish Green MSP Mark Ruskell said that Scotland’s proposed target for 2030 “sets the bar too low” for achieving a future net zero emissions target.
