New analysis from power generator Drax has found that GB renewables capacity has now overtaken fossil fuel capacity in GB.

Drax said on Tuesday 6 November that renewable capacity has tripled over the past five years, bringing total capacity to 42GW. At the same time, it said, a third of fossil fuel generating capacity has been retired, reducing its capacity to 40.6GW.

In the Drax Electric Insights report, it also said that wind farms provide the largest share of renewable capacity, at 20GW, with solar offering 13GW and biomass providing 3.2GW.
