Twelve companies have won a total of £37mn in government funding to develop wireless and discreet charging solutions for electric vehicles, it was announced by the Department for Transport (DfT) on 9 July.

Char.gy, an electric charging company, has been awarded over £2.3mn and will use the funding to develop wireless charging technology on residential streets without the need for trailing cables and additional infrastructure.

As well as wireless charging ideas, projects include discreet points built into pavements or fitted alongside public benches.

The money will also go towards building a rapid charging station in Essex powered by solar energy.
