BEIS has announced that two projects, both of which commenced in April 2019, have been awarded a total of £2.7mn to design, build, test and undertake the trialling of demand management devices in over 100 households with EVs. Published on Wednesday 4 September the announcement confirmed that an EDMI-led consortium and an EDF-led consortium will demonstrate how smart meters can be used to automatically charge EVs when demand and energy prices are at their lowest in order to shift demand away from peak periods, lower emissions and reduce the cost of energy. The projects are set for completion in March 2021.
