Provisional statistics from BEIS released on Thursday 29 August posted a 1.8% increase in the year to the end of July 2019 of installed UK solar capacity to 13,268.7 MW across 1,010,076 installations. However, on Friday 30 August, Solar Trade Association (STA) Chief Executive Chris Hewett called on BEIS to “stop publishing meaningless statistics which do not capture the full picture of UK PV deployment” particularly around the commercial and industrial rooftop PV market, “which is too large to be captured by MCS registration but is seeing significant growth.” Additionally, he stressed the need for BEIS to implement the recommendations set out in the Energy Data Taskforce report earlier in the year, which revealed an estimated 10% of assets which are not visible to the Electricity System Operator, and to introduce an asset registration system to deliver an accurate monitoring of solar PV and battery storage deployment.
