A £16mn all-weather home energy research centre has been approved to be built at the University of Salford.
The Energy House 2.0 facility, the university announced on Thursday 18 October, will replace the existing Energy House, opened in 2011, and will offer faster testing times for new products from energy, smart homes, construction and digital sectors. The new facility, which is being funded by the European Regional Development Fund, the Office for Students and the University of Salford, is said to be able to simulate wind, snow, rain, sunshine and temperatures ranging from -20°C to 40°C.
Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham said: ”Energy House 2.0 at the University of Salford will be a significant driver towards truly net zero carbon homes and workplaces, not just here in Greater Manchester, but across the UK.”
