All new-build homes could be fitted with an electric vehicle (EV) chargepoint, the government has outlined in a public consultation on changing building regulations in England. Published on Monday 15 July, the proposals aim to support and encourage the growing uptake of EVs, making charging easier, cheaper and more convenient for drivers. The government said that the legislation would be a world first, and that it complements wider investment put in place as part of its Road to Zero Strategy. In a separate consultation published on the same day, the government also confirmed that it is seeking evidence on requirements that all new private chargepoints use ‘smart’ technology to encourage off-peak charging and lower costs for consumers.
