BEIS proposals to exclude oil boilers from the next round of the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) would discriminate against rural households and increase levels of fuel poverty, according to oil heating trade association OFTEC. Set to be introduced in October, ECO3 would see oil-heated households still eligible for energy efficiency measures but unable to repair or replace an old, faulty or broken boiler with a new oil appliance. OFTEC CEO, Paul Rose said: “The situation could be acceptable if affordable alternative heating solutions to oil existed. But the simple fact is that currently, they don’t.”
