Supplier E.ON UK has announced plans to use satellites to track energy efficiency measures and find the areas most afflicted by fuel poverty.

Reported by Energy Voice on Monday 24 September, the company will work alongside the European Space Agency and observatory Astrosat. The scheme will use near real-time data, such as thermal infrared heat mapping, to identify issues such as poor housing insulation. E.ON said that the data could then be provided to local authorities to identify where improvements are most needed.

The partners will now work on developing a UK trail, set to be ready to implement by Q3 2019. Business and Energy Secretary Greg Clark said: “This government-backed technology could boldly go where no technician in a van has gone before, with the potential to pinpoint households in fuel poverty or those at risk.”
