The Commons approved the draft Climate Change Act 2008 (2050 Target Amendment) Order 2019 (net zero by 2050) on Monday 24 June, following a debate. The draft order would amend the current 2050 greenhouse gas emissions reduction target from at least 80% to 100% and would constitute a legally binding commitment to end the UK’s contribution to climate change.
