Data released on Tuesday 29 January by Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) and WindEurope has reported a recent rise in corporate power purchase agreements (PPAs). BNEF data showed that 2018 was a record year for clean energy PPAs, with 13.4GW signed globally by 121 corporations – double the 6.1GW signed in 2017. Additionally, WindEurope published statistics on Tuesday 29 January showing that companies around Europe have now signed almost 5GW of PPAs with wind farms. WindEurope CEO Giles Dickson said: “2018 saw a record number of new deals, and the first PPAs in the automotive sector and in pharmaceuticals – and the first in Germany, Spain and Poland. In Germany Mercedes are now going to use wind to power their EV and battery factories.”
