Tilbury power station could get a 100MW battery as part of plans to convert the former coal-fired plant into a gas peaking plant, reported Clean Energy News on Tuesday 24 April. RWE Generation is looking into the possibility of constructing the battery at the site in Essex. The power generation arm of the RWE Group has submitted a scoping report outlining plans to convert the main plant into a 2.5GW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine power station. A 299MW capacity Open Cycle Gas Turbine is also planned alongside the energy storage facility. Due to the size of the project, an application is expected to be submitted to the Planning Inspectorate in the first quarter of 2019.
