The Welsh government announced on Tuesday 8 May that Help-to-Buy mortgages in Wales will be assessed against each property’s energy efficiency rating. This could mean that buyers of better-insulated homes will be able to borrow more money. The move will see energy efficiency become part of the equity loan affordability calculator for Help to Buy-Wales applicants. The Welsh government is the first organisation in the UK to put this in place, with the scheme coming into effect in June.
