Published on Thursday 24 October, a report by Ecuity Consulting on behalf of Liquid Gas UK assessed practical approaches to heat decarbonisation for off-grid rural homes in the UK, which would achieve climate change objectives at the least cost. The report revealed that a mixed technology approach to decarbonising heating systems would save over £7bn, the equivalent of over £4,700 for UK rural homeowners. Although a replacement of technologies in a mixed or fully electrified approach would meet the UK’s targets, offering consumers a range of low carbon solutions would prove the most cost effective. The assessment was made based on in-depth modelling of the UK’s off-grid building stock, utilising data from the English Housing Survey, as well as technology cost and performance data from sources, such as BEIS and the CCC.
