According to a Q1 2018 installation report by BEIS, the rate at which smart meters are being installed across the country has slowed. Released on Thursday 31 May, the data said a total of 1,240,500 smart meters were installed by large energy suppliers in the first three months of the year, a 6% decline compared to the previous quarter. The report said that the decrease was thought to be the result of bad weather conditions. It also pointed out that the number of installations was the second highest of any quarterly period after Q4 2017. The total number of smart meters now installed is 10.8mn. The government has obligated suppliers to offer every home and business a smart meter by 2020 and aims to rollout more than 50mn smart gas and electricity meters across GB.
