The Commons Science and Technology Committee has made a series of recommendations to the government to help the UK achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050, in a report published today (Thursday 22 August). These include: a strategy for decarbonising heat; an incentive scheme for home energy efficiency improvements; bringing forward the ban on conventional cars and vans; ensuring strong policy support for onshore wind and solar power; a review of the Smart Export Guarantee; sustaining nuclear power without growing the industry; removal of greenhouse gases; greater clarity on carbon, capture usage and storage; clean growth regulation of the energy market; and financial support for local authorities.
