Energy and Clean Growth Minister Claire Perry has told the BEIS Committee that achieving EPC Band C certification to improve energy efficiency in households by 2035 will require a total capital investment of £35-65bn, according to BEIS estimates. During the hearing held on Wednesday 24 April, Perry noted the figure, which is “about the amount it has taken to decarbonise the energy sector”, could become much lower if cost curves reduce, alongside a growing technology mix. She also said the introduction of new legislation, such as the Future Homes Standard will also assist. Perry also acknowledged the figures were “much more ambitious” than recent carbon calculations set within the Clean Growth Strategy.
