Water utility company Northumbrian Water has joined a partnership with battery storage developer Argonaut Power to launch a battery pilot at one of its sites. Announced by Ingenious, the parent company of Argonaut Power, the battery storage developer will install the second-life batteries – recovered from Renault electric vehicles – and operate and manage the system. The batteries are expected to be in operation by autumn 2019. Anthony Browne, Energy Development Manager at Northumbrian Water, said: “Large scale battery storage is going to be a major feature of the electricity industry going forward and this is a great opportunity for us to develop our understanding of these processes. We expect that having batteries on site can also help us obtain more value from any renewable energy we generate on our sites.”
