The government has been urged to do more to decarbonise transport. A hearing by the Parliamentary Science and Technology Committee was held on Tuesday 26 February, with MPs asking officials from the UK Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association, the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership and ChargePoint how the UK could meet its transport decarbonisation targets. Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership Managing Director Andy Eastlake said that conflicting government policies such as frozen fuel tax and varying levels of low emission company car taxation were affecting electric vehicle uptake. The three witnesses agreed with Labour MP Darren Jones that the government had several issues to contend with, including whether the UK had enough generation capacity, the development of charging infrastructure and incentivising consumers to buy EVs.
