The Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee heard in its session on development of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs) of the need for interim targets towards the 2040 phase-out of internal combustion cars. David Martell, CEO of Chargemaster stated that five-year milestone goals should be in the upcoming Road to Zero strategy, as well as a strategy for fiscal benefits. Robert Evans, Chair of the UK Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment Association added that interim targets on the progress to 2040 would be more important than the headline target itself. More broadly, Rasita Chudasama from Nottingham City Council stated that that procuring a provider and having the expertise and resources to go to market were the main barriers for local authorities in deploying charge points.
