The UK’s new car market fell 20.5% in September but new hybrid and electric vehicle (EV) sales were up 3.9% during the month, according to the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
Released on Thursday 4 October, the data showed that diesel sales declined by 42.5% during the month, while petrol sales were down by 6.7%. Year-to-date sales for 2018 showed that sales of new hybrids and EVs are up 21.7% on 2017 levels, while petrol sales year-to-date are up 9.3% and diesel sales are down 31.3%. Hybrids and EVs now have a 6% market share, compared to 4.6% in 2017.
