Think tank the Social Market Foundation (SMF) has recommended the government address the quality and energy efficiency of existing housing stocks in order for the UK to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. This was part of a series of recommendations put forward on Friday 26 July. Emeritus Professor of Housing Economics at LSE Christine Whitehead warned that planning for sustainable communities and energy efficient homes should not be overlooked “just so a government can hit ambitious new build targets.”
