Drax announced on Wednesday 30 May that it has submitted a Development Consent Order (DCO) application to the Planning Inspectorate for its gas generation and battery storage Repower project. The project aims to replace Drax’s two remaining coal generating units with a gas plant up to 3.6GW and up to 200MW battery storage. The plans were first set out in September 2017, since when the company has been developing engineering and environmental reports for the application as well as carrying out a public consultation. Drax Power CEO, Andy Koss said: “The Repower project could secure the future of the power station beyond 2025 when the government says coal must come off the system.”
