The Conservative Party published its General Election 2019 manifesto on Sunday 24 November, promising to spend £9.2bn on improving the energy efficiency of homes, schools and hospitals. The party said it will deliver on the 2050 net zero target, as well as investing £800mn to build the first fully deployed carbon capture storage cluster by the mid-2020s, and investing £500mn to help energy-intensive industries move to low-carbon techniques. The party would also invest £1bn in completing a fast-charging network to “ensure everyone is within 30 miles of a rapid electric vehicle charging station”. RenewableUK welcomed the party’s pledge to reach 40GW offshore wind by 2030.
