A survey by PwC has revealed that UK consumers are increasingly engaging with the connected homes market. The data, released on Thursday 31 May, showed that ownership of smart devices has more than doubled in the last two years. PwC’s Digital Utilities Leader, Ronan O’Regan said: “Crucially for energy suppliers, smart home assistants are increasingly acting as a springboard to other smart purchases from heating and lighting to smart appliances.” It also found that although energy companies are trusted above telecoms and tech firms overall, 18-35-year-olds trust tech companies (67%) more than energy (60%) or telecoms (54%) companies. O’Regan said: “If energy suppliers are to maintain their most trusted position, they need to ensure their propositions engage the younger market.”
