Energy and Clean Growth Minister Claire Perry has announced four new smart energy demonstrator projects. In the Wednesday 3 April announcement, the minister said that these projects would demonstrate how businesses can develop local energy approaches at scale. One project is the Energy Superhub in Oxford, led by Pivot Power LLP – the installation of the “world’s first” transmission-connected lithium ion and redox-flow hybrid battery. ReFLEX Orkney, led by the European Marine Energy Centre, will demonstrate a virtual energy system interlinking local electricity, transport and heat networks. Project Leo (Local Energy Oxfordshire), led by Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks, is to take a Distribution System Operator approach to implementing new energy projects. Smart Hub SLES in West Sussex, led by Advanced Infrastructure, will integrate energy management across buildings and transport infrastructure.
