On 12 August, Spanish renewable energy firm Acciona announced that it has won a contract to build a €400mn (£370mn) energy-from-waste plant in Aberdeen.
The NESS Energy project, which will be housed in a former gas storage site on the East Tullos Industrial Estate, will be capable of processing 150,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste every year to generate electricity. It is expected to provide a long-term, sustainable solution for non-recyclable municipal solid waste produced in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray.
Acciona will be responsible for the design, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the plant for a 20-year period.
