On Monday 9 December, the UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC) published its annual review, which examines some of the challenges of meeting 2050 net zero emissions and puts forth 10 key policy actions for the next government. The review finds that there have been 1.8mn SUV sales over the past four years, compared to 47,000 for battery electric vehicles (BEVs), which equates to a ratio of 37:1. In 2018, SUVs also accounted for 21.2% of new car sales, up from 13.5% just three years earlier.
