Prime Minister Boris Johnson pledged to quadruple the UK’s offshore wind capacity from 8.5GW today to 40GW by 2030 on Thursday 14 November, if the Conservative Party wins on 12 December. The announcement was made in notes issued alongside a speech Johnson made at the London Electric Vehicle Company in Coventry. Co-chair of OWIC and UK Country Manager for Ørsted Benj Sykes said: “Offshore wind is now cheaper than gas, nuclear and coal and creates tens of thousands of jobs. As the world leader in offshore wind, this is a technology that the UK is right to be proud of.”
