In a new report, the government admitted that a “significant increase” in building energy efficiency
deployment rates will be required in order to deliver the transition to net zero. This statement was made in
the government’s Wednesday 30 October response to the Commons BEIS Committee July report on
recommendations for improving building energy efficiency. In response to the BEIS Committee
recommendation to treat energy efficiency as a national infrastructure priority, the government said that it
does not believe that deeming energy efficiency a national infrastructure priority is a pre-requisite for action.
Also, the government is considering the appropriate mix of financial support, regulations and incentives and
considering the design of the successor scheme to ECO, “which we expect to commence from 2022”.
